Is it normal to have IBS after having a baby?

by admin ·

I had a baby back in November, and since then I have all the symptoms of IBS. Before my baby, I never had any problems. Is this normal, and should I go to a doctor about this issue?

I don't know if it's normal, but I also got all of the symptoms of IBS after the birth of my son in 2000 (and never had them beforehand). The doctor gave me pills that can be taken every day, but she said to take them when I have the pain and bloating. Now that I'm pregnant again, I can't take the medicine, but I haven't had any of the symptoms of ibs since I found out. I would recommend going to the doctor for it. If they're able to help with the symptoms, then why not? Congratulations on your baby and good luck with the doctor.

What you are experiencing may not be IBS at all. I was diagnosed with IBS for over a year, when in fact, I really had gluten intolerance. Gluten intolerance or Celiac disease, is an intolerance for the protein (gluten) found in wheat, rye, barley, and some other grains. Thus, it is in bread, pasta, etc and can be an added ingredient in numerous foods. I would suggest paying close attention to what you eat, when you eat it, and how you feel. Gluten intolerance is often misdiagnosed as IBS, and it is well know that the disease can lay dormant until a major bodily change occurs (i.e. pregnancy). You may try reading up on the foods that gluten is in and cutting it out for a few days. I saw a dramatic result quickly, so I would say that if you don't notice any difference within a few days, then gluten intolerance may not be your problem. Good luck!
