How come the IBS left when I got to be pregnant?

by admin ·

I had IBS really bad and it started leaving when I got pregnant. Now I am 22 weeks and have no ibs left! What are the chances it will stay gone?

probably because your hormones changed and along with that your good and bad bacteria levels. If it comes back you need to take acidophilus caplets (only get the refrigerated kind from a good health store) it replenishes good bacteria and kills yeast and cures IBS in most people.

Pregnancy is strange…I know a girl that had a-plastic anemia and it whet away and has stayed away since she was pregnant… that is a total miracle!

Irritable bowel syndrome… my mom has it too. Its not someting that comes and goes but pregnancy can do funny things to a body. If its gone now, chances are, it won't come back. Best of luck to you

I don't have IBS, but my stools were much looser during pregnancy, then returned to normal after I gave birth.

well my aunt had the same thing happen, i know i'm only 14 but my best advice is you could ask your doctor if you really wanna know more details but maybe it has something to do with the cells in your body changing now that you're pregnent!

I had a lot of problems disappear from my life while I was pregnant, and some of them came back around a year later. I was told it was because of the changes in hormones, the vitamins I was taking, and the extra care I was giving myself while I was pregnant. I still watch what I eat since I breastfeed, but I have to admit it's not the same as when I was pregnant. If it does come back later on, you might want to try Sir Jason Winters Tea or Digestrol, as those helped my brother-in-law with his really bad IBS. Of course, if you breastfeed, the tea would be for after the baby's at least 2 years old if you're still breastfeeding then, and in small amounts, 'coz younger babies might get upset tummies from it - just like they would with Chamomile or Green tea. The Digestrol I believe would be something for AFTER you're done breastfeeding, unless of course your doctor says it's okay.

Pregnancy slows down the bowels so you can absorb more nutrients. It is likely the IBS will come back, but maybe it won't. It is so hard to tell.

Pregnancy makes your normal diseases either a lot better or a lot worse. I have IBS as well and in one pregnancy, it was GONE, in another, it was 100 times worse. Hopefully it'll stay gone until after you deliver.

I also wanted to add that someone else commented that IBS doesn't "come and go", that's actually completely wrong. I have "flare ups" of my IBS. The flare ups can last from an couple hours to days or even weeks. The medication keeps it mostly under control, but I still get flare ups where it doesn't matter.

Since IBS isn't a specific disorder, but rather any number of symptoms related to lower abdomen discomfort, there is really no way to tell. The current lack of IBS symtoms could be related to stress changes (maybe something about being pregnant is causing you to have less stress) a change in diet (perhaps you are not eating certain foods now that used to trigger it, or are eating new foods that help IBS symtoms). Only time will tell since again IBS can be caused and altered by so many factors. Read more about it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irritable_bowel_syndrome
