Is This A Symptom of Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
I have recently had this bowel movement before. It feels uncomfortable and there is just tiny little pieces around the toilet. What could it mean? It's a solid form and not too watery. I had that kind of bowel movement near the end of my trip out of the state. Is that Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
Agreed. If this really is a problem, see a doctor. It could be relatively minor. What color is the stool?
ibs is a can be a very serious and painful medical condition that is actually very common in America; about 1 in 5 people have it. Again, contact your doctor and discuss the matter.
How can I keep my IBS under control?
Does anyone who has IBS know of any medications, home remedies, or anything at all that can help with ibs pain?
I know that ibs can be very painful( I have it too). Some things that have helped me are: taking hot baths for the cramps or using hot pads on the belly, not drinking caffeine or eating overly spicy foods, taking imodium when I get that feeling like I might not be able to get off the toilet for an hour or before I have a big day that an ibs flare up could ruin (at least an hour beforehand)…also, constipation from ibs hurts, take citrucel( solable fiber ) to prevent constipation and help with diarrhea< it does help both…also my doctor prescribed me Lorazepam(anxiety) but it also helps to stop most ibs episodes in their tracks, maybe you should talk to your doctor about what medications he thinks could work for you. Best of Luck to you and remember don't let this stupid thing control your life instead do everything you desire to do, it just takes some good medications and preparation (I always carry imodium and lorazepam everywhere I go).
Good foods for someone who has IBS and must have a gluten-free diet?
ibs- Irritable bowl syndrome
Thanks to all in advance
Everytime I have any sort of bread, pasta, rice, potato my stomach turns upside down. The same thing happens with cheese or milk; most dairy for that matter, especially ice cream. I've never really saw a doctor for this, so I'm just telling you what happens from experience.
You really do need to see a doctor or nutritionist. It looks as if you may have celiac disease, but with added problems with nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant and peppers) … and rice (this is extremely unusual). If you do have untreated celiac disease, you're also most likely lactose (dairy) intolerant, at least for the time being. If you follow a 100% gluten free diet for a year or so, this may go away.
In order for the tests for celiac disease to have a chance of being accurate, you have to be eating a normal gluten rich diet for several weeks before the tests. They are not 100% accurate (you get false negatives) even then, but at least give them a chance. Once the tests have been done, you can go gluten free with no worries.
To find out which is the best test watch this video by a leading doctor: http://www.free-easypublications.com/not-just-for-celiacs.php
It's possible that the rice you've been eating has been served up with a sauce or similar that contains gluten, so it may not be the culprit. The same goes for potatoes, of course.
If you don't want or can't afford to visit a doctor, then I advise you to start a gluten and dairy free diet, but don't cut rice or potatoes just yet. If after 3 weeks on this diet, you're still getting issues with potatoes and/or rice, then cut them. Hopefully, you will have found acceptable substitutes for these in the meantime. The reason I say not to drop them at the start is that they are often used as substitutes for gluten-containing food.
Here are some possible carb sources to replace rice/potatoes: gluten free pasta, corn, millet, quinoa, lentils, peas and beans. Most of these also contain at least some protein, which is good, as gluten is a protein, so by cutting out gluten you don't just cut the carbs it comes with, but the protein as well.
You will have to learn this mantra, and follow it every day: Check the Label of Every Pack, Every Time You Buy. This is because manufacturers frequently change ingredients without mentioning anything on the front of the pack, The only way to be sure that a mainstream product not flashed "gluten free" is safe is to check the ingredients label (or the allergy box in the UK and Europe).
Untreated celiac disease is a life-threatening illness. Celiacs' life expectancy is directly proportionate to how well they comply with a 100% gluten free diet, so diagnosis is a good thing, or if not, going gluten free to be on the safe side.
Celiac disease causes damage to the intestines which prevents absorption of any food eaten with gluten. It also damages the mechanism that digests lactose (a milk sugar), which is why celiacs often have difficulty with dairy products for the first year or so, until the damage has had time to heal.
I have IBS that gives me diorehha and my bowels keep emptying. How can I put weight on?
I have ibs that gives me diorehha and my bowels keep emptying. This seems to be keeping me very thin.
How can I put weight on?
You may be allergic to some food. I would suggest eliminating wheat & dairy & corn (the most common allergens) from your diet for a couple of weeks and see if that helps. If that doesn't help, I would suggest meat & fat for a few days, add in eggs a few days later, add in green vegs a few days later - keep adding in stuff and see if eliminating something might help. Good Luck hun.
Has anyone any helpfull information on irritable bowel syndrome?
The pain is killing me, makes me feel sick, don“t enjoy life at all now I have this complaint, has anyone out there any advice on how to cope with it.
Doctors say there is no cure, and as I take alot of medication for other problems they say there is not much that can be done.
Some foods may worsen the symptoms, but different patients find different things cause trouble. Keeping a diary of symptoms related to foods eaten may help some people find out which things disagree with them and should therefore be avoided. However, fatty foods strongly stimulate the bowel to contract and are commonly found to cause problems by people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Avoidance of oils, butter, margarine, cream, sausages and fatty meats may help. Beans and legumes are causes of problems for some. Artificial sweeteners may cause problems as can the sugars in certain fruits and, if so, should be avoided. Caffeine in tea and coffee, and alcohol may aggravate symptoms in some people. In occasional cases people may also have a disease called lactose intolerance which prevents them being able to take unprocessed milk products. A good diet is usually one high in carbohydrate, low in fat, and often high in fibre.
This site has some helpful info.
what kind of whole grain cereal would not affect my IBS?
what kind of whole grain cereal would not affect my ibs, meaning it would not cause or aggravate my bloating gaz and constipation.i know that weetabix is out of the question A BIG NO.
ANY other good sources of whole grain cereal?
Rolled Oats [old fashioned porridge].
Not the instant kind.
Make it in a saucepan, better than the microwave,
I have no-sugar-added, fruit yoghurt on top, with milk.
Keeps your blood sugar great, as has Low Glycaemic index.
All the best. [I find that all cereals give me bloating, so don't know the answer for that one].

Irritable bowel syndrome in a child?
Does anyone have a child with irritable bowel syndrome? Please tell me what your childs symptoms were and how you treat it.
I had ibs as a child (and continue to have it as an adult). Symptoms were infrequent bowel movements and later I'd have the constipation alternating with diarrhea, stomach cramping, sometimes explosive diarrhea. Stress was related to the symptoms as a young adult. You can add fiber (never helped me). I believe there are medications for it now but I don't know if there are age limits involved. Sorry I can't tell you more…
Has anyone had sucessful treatment for severe ibs?
I have recently been dianosed with severe IBS and have been in misery for several months now. I was wondering if anyone has had any sucess with treatment where you can have a somewhat normal life.
I have had several tests to exclude gallbladder and even a colonoscopy. The results from the scope said I had an impacted bowel. And all the meds and fiber they have tried has failed.
I also have it and I know how bad it is. I went 6 months without being able to leave the house for more then 20 minutes. My doctor told me to take Citrucel powder. I started taking it 2 times a day. It completely changed my life. In 2 years I have only had about 3 ibs episodes as compared to the 4 a day I used to have. Hopefully this helps you.
Can anyone describe the symptoms/treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome? How do you know if you have it?
and what can be done to treat it?
Irritable bowel syndrome can cause stomach cramps, bloating, excess or trapped wind, constipation, nausea, not feeling like you've finished when on the toilet to running to the toilet every five minutes. You should get it diagnosed by a doctor as it might be embarrassing but it may be something more serious. It can be managed by making a few lifestyle changes like avoiding foods which make you feel ill, drinking plenty of fluids and a high fibre diet if your not intolerant, getting exercise, trying to relax as ibs tends to flare up when you are stressed and medication. A doctor and or a nurse can advise what would be best for your symptoms. Peppermint oil capsules and peppermint tea can ease cramps and nausea and some fibre drinks come with an added anti spasmodic to help ease pain and either ease constipation or diorrhea. A laxative may be helpful at times.
How come the IBS left when I got to be pregnant?
I had IBS really bad and it started leaving when I got pregnant. Now I am 22 weeks and have no ibs left! What are the chances it will stay gone?
probably because your hormones changed and along with that your good and bad bacteria levels. If it comes back you need to take acidophilus caplets (only get the refrigerated kind from a good health store) it replenishes good bacteria and kills yeast and cures IBS in most people.
Pregnancy is strange…I know a girl that had a-plastic anemia and it whet away and has stayed away since she was pregnant… that is a total miracle!
Can having ibs cause sensitivity to motion?
I have ibs and I've noticed that I'm super sensitive to movement, more so than I have been in the past. Could this possibly be caused by my digestive issues or is it something else? I do have hormonal imbalances, as well and I'm on birth contol.
There may be a connection.
Nausea is one of typical IBS symptoms.
Increased levels of certain hormones, e.g. vasoactive intestinal peptide may be also responsible for the decreased gastric tone and motility that accompany motion sickness
Increased susceptibility to motion sickness is associated with personality traits (tendermindness, subjectivity), genetic factors, left-handedness, sensitive taste, hearing and visual problems, among other things.

We think my boyfriend may have irritable bowel syndrome :( Which foods are worst to eat?
It usually affects him in the mornings and we know its probably to do with the stuff he eats on the previous day… I was just wondering what foods are most likely to do him harm.
It's really hard to say, because everyone with IBS is different. What affects one person doesn't bother another, and vice-versa. Trial and error is really the only way you can find out. For example, if there are particular foods that he's sensitive to, those are the ones to avoid. Generally speaking, ibs patients should avoid roughage, such as seeds and nuts, raw fruits and vegetables, and too much coffee, tea or alcohol. But first of all, I'd suggest that he sees a doctor to determine if he really has IBS, or other ailments that are similar, and then go from there as far as dietary restrictions are concerned. Good luck!
What should I eat before a morning run when I have IBS?
I have ibs (irritable bowel syndrome) and I am an active runner. What breakfast should I eat before the run can prevent me from constantly putting gas and going to the bathroom. This is embarrasing but I found that if I get everything out of my system I will be left with no energy to run…. A good run is uplifting and I will be even more upset if I can't run….please help me out here. Thanks!
Try eating yogurt. It is filling but doesn't sit in your stomach and it is good for you. The protein might help you burn more calories when you run as well.
What are the main differences between gastritis and Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
Also, which one is made worse by certain foods?
I try to eat gentle foods, but my stomach (right in the middle, over my navel area) hurts every day of my life. It has gradually gotten worse over the last 6 months. The Dr. tried me on Nexium which only helped minimally.
Any help/answer is appreciated.
Gastritis is a disorder of the lining of the stomach, whereas IBS is a disorder of your colon. Symptoms of gastritis include: nausea, vomiting, feeling of fullness, pernicious anemia. Symptoms of ibs include: abdominal discomfort, constipation, diarrhea.
Diet changes are common in IBS treatment. I've heard that fats have been found to start irritation in IBS, but I think a lot of your diet changes are going to be determined on your own personal recall of what triggers your episodes.
Is it normal to have IBS after having a baby?
I had a baby back in November, and since then I have all the symptoms of IBS. Before my baby, I never had any problems. Is this normal, and should I go to a doctor about this issue?
I don't know if it's normal, but I also got all of the symptoms of IBS after the birth of my son in 2000 (and never had them beforehand). The doctor gave me pills that can be taken every day, but she said to take them when I have the pain and bloating. Now that I'm pregnant again, I can't take the medicine, but I haven't had any of the symptoms of ibs since I found out. I would recommend going to the doctor for it. If they're able to help with the symptoms, then why not? Congratulations on your baby and good luck with the doctor.
What would cause urgent bowel movements beside IBS?
I was told I have ibs about 2.5yrs ago but the only symptom I have is urgent bowel movements nothing else. What else could be causing this? I have had most of the test done but feel we are missing something since this is the only issue that is bothersome.
Could you be consuming too much fibre and high fat foods? My son is okay if he cuts down on fibre but sometimes even a bowl of Shreddies can send him to the toilet 10xs a day.Try monitoring your intake of those foods and see if that helps.
