What food to eat if you have constipation?

by admin ·

I know you should eat and drink more water, and grains, but could you give you me some recommendation for healthy, nutritious, and high in fiber, low in sodium food or snack?

Also, how does constipation occur?

i have been constipating for about 1 week, and i am taking medication from doctor, i need a faster way to cure it, so i could be back on the track.

The best long term cure I've found is a primarily vegetarian diet, plenty of water, some probiotics, proper weight management, and lots of daily exercise.

This is kind of my "cures what ails ya" strategy. Works for just about everything. Things have been working smoothly ever since.

What causes constipation is a bit complicated. Has to do with diet and flora (bacteria) balance in the intestine….

not a food …but stool softener

Also, relax, have a hot drink in the morning and when you try to go, put your feet up a little, like a short stool

Prunes are great. Leafy and busy vegetables (spinach, romaine lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower) and beans also work well. Steam them for the best nutrition and least loss of fiber in the cooking process.

And don't go too fast. Faster isn't always better. Keep in mind that if your body isn't used to high fiber content you may be crampy at first if you overdo it. Gradually increase your uptake by a few grams a day and see how it agrees with you.

Constipation can happen for many reasons. The most common is that your diet doesn't have enough fiber to stimulate the GI tract and move things along. However, if your symptoms don't resolve in several weeks you should consult with your doctor as to other causes.

A large coffee always works for me - lol!
Stay away from cheese and other dairy for a couple of days. Drink plenty of water. It could be you're not getting enough liquids. Visit your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist. They will be able to suggest something that will work.

    how does constipation work?
when one is contipated one is "stopped up". Raisins are great for helping to keep one regular. Also Golden Seal root assists with the cleansing of the body. Lots of water or prune juice, that is why all the old people drink it.

If you have been constipated for a week, there is a problem. The doctor would know best. Ask him about this issue and he may give you a stool softener.

You may have to use a mild laxative to break the constipation, then you need to eat high fiber fruits and vegetables as in the following: Avocado
    Beans
    Broccoli
    Brussels sprouts
    Cabbage
    Carrot
    Chick Peas/Garbanzo Beans
    Eggplant
Greens — collards, kale, turnip greens
    Lima beans
    Mushrooms
    Potato with skin
    Pumpkin, canned
Peas — black-eyed peas, green peas
    Peppers
    Rhubarb
    Spinach
    Sweet Potatoes
    Apples
    Avocado
    Bananas
Berries — Blueberies, Blackberries, Raspberries, etc.
Dried Fruits — Figs, Raisins, Apricots, Dates, etc.
    Guava
    Kiwi
    Orange
    Pears
    Prunes

    Hope this helps. Good luck.
