well first call the doctor. they will most likely say give half an infant suppository. you can also give apple juice 4-6 ounces diluted..a day. to keep them going. oh and try prunes…. they work

I'd try some CHILD suppositories. There is a difference between child and adult suppositories. Be careful. Also I'd give the doctor a call ASAP. Poor baby.

I give my daughter Infant apple/prune juice.
Some babies wont drink it, but mine does. It's found where the little jarred juices are. Works great!
But I only give it when necessary!

Has he been having trouble since birth, or is it something new?

If it's a long standing problem, it could be a physical issue, or (if he's formula fed) he could be constipated from his formula. (Babies on breastmilk alone are never constipated.)

If it's a recent change, the first thing that comes to mind is his solid foods. Many common 'early solids' are very binding — rice cereal, applesauce and bananas are partcularly known for causing these problems. So … if he's recently started solids, and is getting a lot of binding foods, I would ideally stop all solids (he doesn't need them yet), or at least switch to/increase the amounts of less binding foods.

If none of that helps, or fits in with what is happening , I would talk to the doctor. There are a variety of treatments for constipation in infants, but the best one for your situation would depend on the exact issues.

My daughter had that too. My Dr said take 1 Tbsp of Karo syrup the lightest kind and mix with 4 ozs of water. If that doesn't help as much up the Karo to up to 2 1/2 Tbsp. Also prune juice helps or try prune baby food. If they won't take that try pear juice. Make an effort to give your child water everyday. It'll help them go potty.

Well if he doesn't go for 3 days or more - you need to contact your doctor.

But - my son is on rice cereal and he used to have a hard time going. I use Dark Karo Syrup in his bottles. Every bottle actually while he is constipated (he drinks 4 oz. so I put in a tspn).

Also keep him hydrated. Water helps with constipation. So try to give baby 2 oz extra per day.

At this age - juice should be okay - maybe this is where you can add the 2 extra ounces.

Warm bath - this will help too. But my doc also said to fill the sink with warm water and put babies butt in it - it helps them push where the warmth is… That's what my doc said - who knows I didn't try it…

Prune juice is best - just bottlefeed it directly. Try to make sure the baby gets more liquids so it doesn't happen again.

Try to give some dark karo syrup in his bottle. You can also use glycerin suppositories. With a child that young you should use only about one quarter to one half of a child suppository. It should work relatively quick. If the child does't have a BM one hour after getting a suppository then you need to call the doc ASAP. You can try massaging his belly and moving his legs like he's riding on a bicycle. Encourage lots of fluids. You can also try some foods with fiber such as applesauce or jarred bananas. Hope that helps.

I highly recommend that you take your child to a pediatrician to check for physical causes of his condition and also because the presence of hard or dry stool could be considered a warning sign, particularly if your child seems to be in pain or having difficulty when having a bowel movement.
