What do you give your newborn for constipation?

by admin ·

My little boy is almost 2 weeks old but seems to have bad constipation a lot, he is on formula and breast milk.

i'd try a different brand of formula and see if that produces any results.

Have you talked to your doctor about it??

2 weeks is pretty little for an "at home remedy"

I would seek professional advice on this one..

I wouldn't think of doing anything before consulting your doctor.

For bottle feeding, make sure that you are mixing the formula correctly with the right amount of water. It's also important if you are breastfeeding to take care in what you eat since your diet will affect the breast milk.

I wasted my money at the hospital when my little one was plugged up. They lubed up a butt stick, and WHOA did she make a mess. Next time you change him, take his temp. It should stimulate the evacuation process and empty his bowels. That was 21 years ago and just recently I had to do it for my grandson.

You should not be breast feeding and feeding formula at the same time. It is one or the other. Changing between the two will not only cause constipation but other stomach problems. If you are not always available to nurse than you should pump. I am curious to know if your doctor is aware of you changing feeding habits so frequently.

It might not be constipation. Newborns make lots of noises an seem to strain when passing poo, but it doesn't mean he's constipated. Pooping as well as eating is new to him and it will take some time for him to adjust and get used to all the new feelings his body is giving his brain. Call your doctor, they will most likely ask you about his eating habits and then tell you he's completely normal and you're doing a great job.

Giving him waterin between feeds can help or massaging his tummy in a clockwise motion.

Talk to your doctor about your concerns as he's still very young I wouldn't give him anything else. It could be a side effect of the two types if feeding.

As cinderbella says, at that age the safest thing you can give is the infant size glycerine suppository - it'll make him do some dirt in 15 minutes or less!
