I've been having this problem the last few days, and need help badly …I suffer from constipation, and a few days ago my belly started to get bloated, and I dunno what to do. I've been eating lots of fiber to try to stop the constipation but its no use.
Should I try a laxative? will this end the whole bloated belly thing? It makes me look about a few pounds heavier, Help?
It sounds like you have been constipated for several days. I think eating fruit and taking some stool softeners may help, if not by all means take a gentle laxative because you are filling up with gas and you need to relieve all that pressure and contents of your colon.Also drink plenty of liquids maybe prune juice which is a natural laxative.

Changes in your lifestyle may be the safest way to manage constipation. To help ease symptoms, try using a fiber supplement, such as oat bran, Metamucil, Konsyl or Citrucel. These natural supplements help make stools softer and are safe to use every day. Be sure to drink plenty of water or other fluids every day. Otherwise, fiber supplements can actually make your constipation worse. And add fiber to your diet slowly to avoid problems with gas.

In general it's a good idea to check with your doctor before using any laxatives other than fiber supplements. Try eating lots of high-fiber foods, such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains. It's a good idea to check the content of prepared foods because not all foods claiming to be high in fiber actually are. Drink plenty of fluids and get as much exercise as you can. Swimming and walking are good choices.
This is an embarrassing question, but I have really bad constipation a lot of the time. My parents have been telling me for years to eat right, but I didn't listen because I didn't like healthy foods and it didn't really bother me, but as I've gotten older it's gradually gotten more and more painful. What should I do? My mom is willing to get me medicine for it. We already got Phillips stool softeners but they don't work much. It really hurts and I don't think I can handle it anymore, so I'm willing to do whatever I have to to make it stop. First go to a doctor if it as bad as you say. They will adive you on any futher action.
However the proper diet is usually key to solve constipation problems. To help my constipation I usually eat the following foods to help me. Of course not all of them in one sitting – wholemeal bread covered in honey or jam, weetabix, fruit – apples are especially good, hard boiled eggs.
Also natural remedies such as Senna will help too. You can get them in tablet form from most shops.

When it comes to relieving constipation, we are a society expecting quick fixes. We want it out and now, right? Itâs no surprise we spend about 900 million dollars on laxatives each year. Laxatives, though, should be a last resort for many reasons. Since they are available without a prescription we tend to think of them as safe. Unfortunately, they can become habit-forming quickly and they are harmful to your body in the long-term.
Types of Laxatives:
- Bulk laxatives – This is the best type of laxative to relieve constipation for prolonged use. Though usually taking a few days to start working, they can provide some relief. Remember to drink plenty of water. Bulk laxatives include: psyllium husk (available through health food stores), bran, ispaghula husk, and sterculia.
- Stimulant laxatives – These laxatives aim at increasing bowel contractions but can cause stomach cramps as a side effect. These are taken at night to have a morning bowel movement, as they are supposed to work within 6-12 hours. Senna is an example of a stimulant laxative. Although they work to relieve constipation, experts believe the contractions cause weakening of the digestive muscles which will eventually make the problem worse. Since these laxatives cause contractions, they are not safe for pregnant women. Glycerol suppositories are included in this group. Although they are inserted into the rectum, they still act as a stimulant.
- Osmotic laxatives – These go to work at relieving constipation by helping the bowel retain water and by softening the stool. Epsom salts and Milk of Magnesia are osmotic laxatives.
- Lactulose – This medication comes in crystals or liquid form. A type of sugar that isnât digested by the body, Lactulose acts like a fiber and osmotic laxative combined. This type takes up to 3 days to work and may cause cramping and profuse gas.
There are other medications that act as stool softeners, which basically coat the bowel so water doesnât get absorbed from the stool. Since the body naturally removes water from the colon, it isnât suitable as a long-term solution for relieving constipation.

In this article we will look at infant constipation treatment and how best to deal with constipation when an infant is suffering from it.
The best way in which any parent could treat an infant who is suffering from constipation is by changing the child’s diet. The constipation will not improve without a change of diet and they will also probably be using stool softeners as well.
The goal of any infant constipation treatment is so that the child has 1 or 2 soft stools each day. So why not give them 2 to 4 ounces of water or diluted fruit juice once or twice a day. Or you may want to swap the formula they are drinking at the moment for a soy formula instead.
If however your infant is older than 4 months and suffering from constipation then you may want to try feeding them lots of fiber which are contained in cereals, strained prunes, apricots or spinach.
A great way of helping an infant suffering from constipation is by massaging their stomach. Begin at the belly button and then massage outwards in circles in a clockwise direction. Put some baby oil or cream on your fingers as this will help with the massage. However if your child becomes upset or uncomfortable with the massage then stop it.
Or you try moving your infant’s legs in a cycling motion whilst they are laid on their backs. Just hold their legs and then gently move them in a quick cycling motion. This will cause the stomach muscles to move and this in turn will put gentle pressure on the infant’s intestines and make them move.
Another great way of helping an infant suffering from constipation is to give them a warm bath which will help them to relax and thus their stools will be passed more easily. After the bath and when your infant is more relaxed you could try massaging their stomach again. Also after a bath apply some cream or Vaseline to the area around the infant’s anus. It is important that you do not put a thermometer or anything inside your infant’s anus to stimulate bowel movement as this will only cause damage to your child.
