my dear friend suffers terribly from constipation. I imagine it's from the medication he has to take. Considering that not taking the medication at this point is simply not an option, and he's stuck eating hospital food – what is a natural way he can cure his constipation? it breaks my heart to hear that he's up till 3am in horrible pain! he's the sweetest guy – can anyone help?

High fiber foods can help a lot. Soluble fiber from fruit and veg will help the most in terms of stool softening. But insoluble fiber, like that from whole grains will also help.

Although I always recommend foods first and foremost constipation from medication is probably going to require a little more. Something like a high fiber drink (benefiber is the best as it has the most soluble, or metamucil if you can get that). The hospital may even supply this.

One thing to remember about fiber is you also need water! Fiber works as it is not digested and it attracts water into the bowel. This makes you stools softer, easier to pass and quicker (as they are more bulky so you push them through faster). But you need to be drinking water too. Not excessive, but about 1-2L per day.

Lactose can help as it works the same way as fiber, attracting water into the bowel. But it can cause bloating and flatulence as the undigested lactose (a sugar) is fermented by the colonic bacteria.

I have recently gotten off of my diet, just a low calorie diet, and now i am starting on a new eating plan which is 5 small meals a day to help speed up my metabolism and i have been eating the daily intake of fiber and having a healthy balanced diet and i exercise a lot and i've been drinking water and i've even tried a gentle over night laxative. What should i do to get rid of my bloating and constipation?

Prune juice and cranberry juice. Not the cocktail kind. Continue drinking water. You may also try adding flax seed meal to your diet. You can buy it a health food store. A few sprinkles a day keeps the doctor away.

Rid Your Body of Toxins

In America, more than anywhere else in the world, people are increasingly getting affected by colon-rectal cancer. Research reveals any American in the present day who survives till the age of 40 is almost certain to have diverticulosis, popularly known as herniated bowel pockets. There are also a lot of reports of the Chrone’s Disease. Such facts are shocking and make us sit up and take notice of how things are and we are more concerned about our colon health which very often tends to get neglected.

If you think that too much of unwanted toxins have accumulated inside your colon it may be time for you to go for a colon cleanse. Excess of waste matter in your colon can cause you to feel sick and depressed. On the other hand a clean colon will make you feel healthier and happier. So if you want a better life and make the most of it then get your colon cleansed.

One of the best ways to clean your system is by drinking water. Drink as much water as possible and nothing less than 3 liters a day should do. Water is a great cleansing agent and is the primary element that will help us keep our system clean by getting rid of the toxins.

The other thing that you must do is to have plenty of fiber in your daily meal. Fiber is an important part of the balanced diet which many of us tend to overlook. It provides the roughage that helps to drive away the deposited wastes from the colon. It is in the colon where the accumulated wastes don’t get flushed out, gets impacted on the walls of the intestine and produce harmful toxins which are absorbed by the bloodstreams flowing near the colon and circulated all through the body.

If the problem of accumulation of waste products in the colon is serious it is also possible for you to go to a colon cleansing program or use colon cleansing products which are readily available these days in any drug store or health food store. You can also make your own colon cleanser by following the instructions in a colon cleansing recipe which can easily be accessed on the internet.

It is vital to rid your body of toxins, any which way possible as otherwise they can make you feel fatigued and depressed and can be the root cause of several other serious conditions.

Your Dog Can Suffer From Constipation Too

It is not only humans that suffer from constipation, but our pets can too! Dog constipation is normally caused due to a lack of exercise and an incorrect diet. In this article we will look at ways that dog constipation can be treated using some home remedies.

As previously mentioned ensuring that your dog’s diet is good and that they are getting sufficient exercise are the most important components for ensuring that your dog’s bowels work correctly. Any dog that is kept in the home should be walked 2 times a day whilst their diet should be correctly maintained.

However if your dog does become constipated a good way of alleviating the problem is to add 1 or 2 teaspoons of bran to it meal. This allows extra moisture to appear in its stools.

Another way that you can treat your dog should it become constipated is by adding Psyllium (Metamucil) to their diet. Just giving them ½ teaspoon each day plus providing them with lots of drinking water will help to alleviate the constipation that they have.

The next option you could try is to add 2 teaspoons of mineral oil to their meals twice a day for a week and this is especially good where there is a large build up of hard stools in your dog.

As you can see there are a number of steps you can take in order to help your dog if they should suffer from constipation but by keeping his food moist (add a little water) will help? Or if your dog is a little more mature then include some raw meat and vegetables into their diet.

Often there are certain signs which will alert you to any potential problems your dog may have and for which you can act on immediately. If your dog has a long coat then sometimes the stools can become entangled in the coat and it is vital you keep your dog properly groomed.

Also dogs have a tendency to eat everything in sight so make sure there are no bones or other materials that they may ingest. Dogs may also suffer from constipation because of a medication that they are on. But there may even be a psychological reason as to why your dog has become constipated (they could be stressed even dogs get stressed to).

Although it has been suggested that dogs of all breeds and no matter what age can be prone to constipation and so there may be some other factors that need to be taken into consideration which may be caused by you as an owner. Do not ever feed your dog from the dinner table as you are contributing to his constipation.

It is important that you do not feed your dog food which contains flour, sugar, rice, dairy or are high in protein as they will on excacerbate the situation. Also included in this would be ice cream, cooks, bread, chocolate or any other foods that we consider to be unhealthy.

Not only can constipation in dogs be caused by lack of fiber or fluids but also by a mega colon (an inflamed colon which prevents your dog from discharging their stools).

The time you should decide to visit your vet if your dog is suffering from constipation is when they have a loss of appetite; begin to pass small amounts of blood and general they look and act very lethargic.

It is important that you are very vigilant to any signs of stress and make your that your dog’s diet and exercise regime is appropriate for them and hopefully this will alleviate or prevent dog constipation in your pet.
